HISTORY
The Finnish-Canadian Club was officially formed in 1950, although prior to that a small group of Finns, circa 1920’s, congregated as the Suomalainen Kansallis Seura.
During the 1950’s the Finnish-Canadian Club gathered at the McIntyre Block on Main Street, (now demolished). Thereafter, for a short period of time the club rented space at the YMCA in downtown Winnipeg, later moving to the old Scandinavian Centre on Young Street which went under the wrecking ball decades ago.
The Finnish-Canadian Club is always looking for new members and it is not necessary to know the Finnish language. Whether you are first, second, third or fourth generation Finn, or a person interested in Finnish culture and traditions, please join us for the various events planned throughout the year. Our annual Pikku Joulu has always been well-attended as have other events such as Kalevala Day; Sunday brunches; and consulate visits.
We may be a small group of Finns, but we have a lot of SISU. Our heritage and culture is important to us and our goal is to share that with you. Tervetuloa.
